ACTION ALERT // Offshore Oil Drilling
The Trump administration wants to open up California’s coast to new offshore oil drilling – but our state legislature is pushing back! Please call Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, Chair of the Appropriations Committee at (916) 319-2080 and ask her to support AB 1775 and help protect California’s coastline, environment and economy by putting a stop to new offshore oil and gas drilling and production.
MORE: AB 1775 (Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi and Assemblymember Monique Limón) and SB 834 (Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Senator Ricardo Lara) would prohibit the State Lands Commission from approving any new leases, lease renewals, extensions or modifications of any lease in state waters that would result in an increase of oil or natural gas production from federal waters. More information here.
ACTION ALERT // Marine Protected Areas
The state's Senate Appropriations Committee made a big mistake in denying funding to protect whales, sharks and other sea creatures. You can help! Looking especially at you, Surfrider LA – Surfrider South Bay Chapter – Surfrider Foundation San Francisco Chapter – please share and call! More information here.

Blog Alert // Plastic and Oil
When we think of plastic pollution, we think of images of plastic bags on the beach, suffering marine life, and the almost invisible smog of microplastics in our ocean. What often gets overlooked is the fact that conventional plastic is made from fossil fuels, and is a product of the oil and gas industry. Read more here.
