International Surfing Day - June 19

Every day, the Surfrider Foundation and our network of volunteer activists work to protect our coasts. On International Surfing Day, we come together and take a moment to celebrate the waves and beaches that we all love. Surfing is an amazing gift and the beach is an incredible place that should be healthy, safe and accessible to all people. As surfers and beachgoers alike, it is our responsibility to foster a vibrant, inclusive community that comes together to protect and enjoy this extraordinary resource. For decades, Surfrider has championed to keep our beaches accessible and welcoming for all people to enjoy. The Beach belongs to everyone and we vow to continue our fight for beach access for all people! Here's more information!

ICYMI: World Refill Day!

Last week, June 16 was #WorldRefillDay. We joined millions of people around the world, taking action to make single-use plastic a thing of the past. #WorldRefillDay is a global movement of everyday activists, non-profits, and sustainable businesses uniting behind a shared message that we need to see action on single-use plastics, and one of the solutions is reuse. Join us and tell the world #WeChooseReuse by sharing photos on your social media channels, reusing and refilling your containers. Find out more!

ActCoastal: June Coastal Commission Report

The Coastal Commission’s June meeting took place virtually on Wednesday, June 9 through Friday, June 11 and the ActCoastal report is out now! The meeting featured several important items including a permit amendment for improvements to public access at Bayside Beach in Newport Beach, a permit for a new seawall in Solana Beach and the reconfiguration and improvements to Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. Notably, the City of Del Mar’s Local Coastal Program update for sea level rise was withdrawn two days before the scheduled hearing based on a vote by the City Council. The meeting did not result in any vote charts. Check out our YouTube channel to see ActCoastal partner testimony. For more information on these items and others, check out the full meeting report - posted on the ActCoastal home page.
