Volunteers Welcome

Surfrider chapters depend on volunteers to help support our mission of protecting our ocean, waves, and beaches for all people through a powerful activist network. Surfrider is only as strong as the great people that are involved to help protect the coast. It can be challenging at times, but it is also fun and very rewarding. Some of our California chapters are looking for help with specific roles.

Surfrider San Luis Obispo is looking for a volunteer Communications Coordinator to help with social media, blogs, a chapter newsletter, and/or website updates. Instagram is our main social media platform. We use Hubspot for our chapter website, blog, and newsletters. This role will likely average a flexible 2-4 hours per week. The SLO Chapter is also looking for volunteers to help support local campaigns and other efforts.

Surfrider Santa Cruz is looking for Core Volunteers to help lead beach cleanups. Carolyn, the Beach Cleanup Coordinator, could use help running the monthly cleanups. In addition to spending 2-3 hours leading each cleanup, we would like some assistance with planning, promoting, and recapping each cleanup. A Core Volunteer is someone who contributes their time on a regular basis. We love to help develop Core Volunteers into leaders who help to plan events and guide the chapter, eventually becoming Executive Committee members if you are interested. The Santa Cruz Chapter is also looking for a volunteer to lead their local Ocean Friendly Restaurants (OFR) program. This is a flexible position geared toward signing up restaurants for the free OFR program, providing copy and photos to help promote OFRs, and organizing social mixers at OFRs.

Surfrider Santa Barbara is also looking for core volunteers to help lead beach cleanups. Jess, the Beach Cleanup Coordinator, could use help running the bi-monthly cleanups. In addition to spending 2-3 hours leading each cleanup, we would like some assistance with planning, promoting, and recapping each cleanup. The Santa Barbara Chapter is also looking for a volunteer to lead their local Ocean Friendly Restaurants (OFR) program with a description similar to the Santa Cruz OFR lead above. Finally, Surfrider Santa Barbara is also looking for a volunteer Communications Coordinator to help with social media, blogs, a chapter newsletter, and/or website updates. Instagram is our main social media platform. We use Hubspot for our chapter website, blog, and newsletters. This role will likely average a flexible 2-4 hours per week.
