Newport Beach Chapter Adopts A Channel!

Written by Bill Hickman | May 6, 2021 8:12:28 PM

After two years of behind-the-scenes work to finalize their Adopt A Channel project for part of the Santa Ana Riverbed near the ocean, the Newport Beach Chapter recently held their first cleanup at the location. It was a huge success as the Huntington / Seal Beach Chapter and student club members from local high schools joined in to collect over 1,300 pounds of trash before it finished the migration to the ocean.

The Adopt A Channel project is the brainchild of the Newport Beach Chapter Vice Chair John Wadsworth. With support from the Newport Beach Chapter Executive Committee, John navigated the permitting process and worked with local officials to make the project a reality. It’s a tough location to access and once approved, the project got delayed because brush needed to be removed to safely access the impacted area.

This is the first in a series of Adopt A Channel cleanups that the Newport Beach Chapter and the Huntington / Seal Beach Chapter are teaming up on. As COVID restrictions lift there will be opportunities for the public to join these cleanups. Stay tuned to the Newport Beach Chapter website, the Huntington / Seal Beach Chapter website and social media for future cleanup dates.
