Humboldt Surfrider Chapter Chairperson Delia Bense-Kang recently took to the skies for a view you just can't get from land – especially in far northern California, where coastal access is minimal and forbidding landscapes are the norm. (Humboldt County also boasts the most coastline of any California counties, with 110 miles of the state's 840-mile coast contained within its spectacular boundaries.)
The flight, documented in pretty photo after pretty photo, takes readers from the Oregon border to the Humboldt Bay harbor entrance, with a particular emphasis on the region's marine protected areas. First Assemblymember Jim Wood (of California's second district) attended the flight, as did Surfrider's California Policy Manager Jennifer Savage.
The flight was provided by LightHawk, a nonprofit dedicated to flying for conservation. See the original post in all its glory here.
