July 16th through July 20th Surfrider and other organizations are flooding elected officials in Washington D.C. with phone calls urging them to protect the ocean from offshore oil drilling. Will you join us?
CLICK HERE to find the phone number for your congressperson in the U.S. House of Representatives and are here are some talking points to consider:
* Tell them you strongly oppose offshore drilling as a constituent in him district.
* Remind them that our economy and way of life depend on clean beaches and a healthy ocean.
* Urge them to vote to protect the Pacific from offshore drilling in the Interior funding bill.
* Demand they write a letter to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to ask that the Pacific coast be removed from offshore drilling plans.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration announced plans to expand offshore oil drilling to 90% of U.S. waters including our beloved California coast. This dangerous proposal prompted over a hundred members of Congress – both Democrat and Republican – to ask Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to cancel plans for new offshore drilling.
Dozens of cities, counties, and other communities throughout the region have passed resolutions against offshore oil drilling. More than 1,100 businesses have joined the Business Alliance for Protecting the Pacific Coast to make the economic case for ocean protection. We want our members of Congress to take action to Protect the Pacific and we need to make our voices heard!
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a bill that funds the Department of Interior. We will flood our representatives with calls to urge them to VOTE YES on an amendment to keep the Pacific protected from new oil drilling.
